Lando Norris returns to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez as the defending winner of the Mexico City Grand Prix and as the 2025 world champion.

His path to the top took time. He won his first Grand Prix in Miami on May 5, 2024, in his 110th race. That same year in Mexico he finished second, 4.705 seconds behind Carlos Sainz.

In 2025, with McLaren, he started from pole in Mexico City and won the race; teammate Oscar Piastri finished fifth. “Lifting the trophy here, in the stadium, was very special,” he said afterward (Gente México translation). Team principal Andrea Stella spoke of “a dominant performance and a deserved victory” (Gente México translation).

On December 7, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, he closed the championship with 423 points — two more than Max Verstappen. He was McLaren’s first champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2008 and the eighth driver to take the title with the team. His season added seven wins and seven poles, according to McLaren. “This is not my world championship, it’s ours,” he said (Gente México translation).
